INQUIRY – JOCKEY G VAN NIEKERK

The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on Thursday, 25 January 2024, Jockey G van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that whilst riding GREENLAND, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners when he shifted inwards from the 500m in Race 9 on 30 December 2023 at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse.

Jockey van Niekerk pleaded guilty and was found guilty of the charge. 

The Inquiry Board, after considering the mitigating factors presented and Jockey van Niekerk’s riding record, ruled that he be suspended from riding in races for a period of seven (7) days. 

Jockey van Niekerk was given the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.
