The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at Turffontein Racecourse on 29 September 2022, Jockey S’manga Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read with Guideline M on the use of the crop.  The particulars being that he misused his crop by striking PATON’S TEARS more than twelve times during Race 7, at Turffontein Racecourse on 15 September 2022. 

Jockey Khumalo pleaded guilty and was found guilty of the charge.  

The Inquiry Board in assessing the penalty, considered the aggravating and mitigating factors, as well as taking Jockey Khumalo’s recent record pertaining to this type of contravention into account.  Jockey Khumalo was suspended from riding in races for a period of ten days.  

Jockey Khumalo was given the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.
