PROTOCOL FOR THE USE OF “GLUE-ON” SHOES
PROTOCOL FOR THE USE OF “GLUE-ON” SHOES
The use of glue-on aluminium shoes is permitted for racing on all surfaces provided they are fitted to the satisfaction of the farrier and they are declared at the time of final declarations. It will not be permitted for these shoes to be applied, or re-applied, less than two (2) hours prior to a race.
Should a horse shift or cast a glue-on shoe within two hours of a race but prior to leaving the parade ring, a Stipendiary Steward, in consultation with a licensed Veterinary Surgeon and the trainer will determine the suitability of a standard nailed plate being fitted to the horse. Should any one of the aforementioned persons be of the opinion that it is not appropriate to apply a standard nailed plate to the horse it shall be withdrawn from the race.
If it is agreed that a standard nailed plate can be satisfactorily fitted to the horse, such plate will be applied after which the horse will be subjected to a veterinary examination to determine its suitability to race. In the event that a standard nailed plate is fitted to a horse in these circumstances and the horse subsequently shifts or casts the shoe prior to the race, no further attempt will be made to re-apply the shoe and the horse will be withdrawn from the race.
Should the horse shift or cast a glue-on shoe on the way to the start, it will be withdrawn from the race. If these glue-on shoes are continuously lost prior to or during the running of a race then it may be prevented from being shod this way in future.
