It is the owner and or the applicant/s submitting the names duty to carry out appropriate searches and to ensure that a proposed name submitted for registration does not infringe any legal or proprietary rights belonging to any other person or company as well as to not offend any individual. This may require taking independent legal advice.
By completing and submitting this name application, this indicating that you wish to proceed with the application to reserve and or register this name, you confirm that you will not infringe the legal rights of anyone else and that you are entitled to register this name. The National Horseracing Authority of South Africa (NHA) accepts no liability whatsoever for claims that may arise resulting from the registration of this name. You complete this name application and registration at your own risk.
I hereby request that the name submitted may be registered in accordance with the Horse Naming Policy. I confirm that I have checked that the name(s) does not infringe any legal or proprietary rights belonging to any other person or company and does not infringe on human rights or cause any offence to any person(s).
Name Reservation Notices
- Only one name per horse will be reserved.
- Names will be adjudicated in the order of submission should more than one name be applied for.
- Once a name has been accepted for a horse all other names will be deleted.
- Names belonging to a public figure or a brand will be considered if written permission to use the name is provided from the individual or company.
- Names of raced horses will not be changed unless considered necessary, for example, for cultural reasons.
- Fees - R220 (Unnamed) / R1995 (Name Change – Unraced).
- Names will be registered according to the foals that they are reserved for. When applying for names, kindly insert the correct mare name and foaling year at the time of submission. Should names need to be reassigned, an admin fee will apply.
