INQUIRY – JOCKEY S KHUMALO

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, Jockey S Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that, as the rider of MISS HANNIGAN, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to QUEEN OF LOVE (P Strydom) when he shifted in away from the crop in the concluding stages in Race 7 at Turffontein Racecourse on 28 June 2025.

The NHA places on record that this Inquiry proceeded on the basis that this was the third consecutive time that Mr Khumalo failed to appear in the same matter. The NHA had suspended the previous two scheduled hearings so as to give Mr Khumalo every reasonable opportunity to attend.

Due to Mr Khumalo not attending the Inquiry, the Inquiry Board entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf, and after deliberation, he was found guilty of the charge.

After considering the evidence, as well as Mr Khumalo’s record pertaining to this type of contravention, the Inquiry Board imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of seven (7) days.

Jockey S Khumalo has the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.

A separate Inquiry will be held into Mr Khumalo’s non-attendance at this Inquiry.
