INQUIRY - JOCKEY GAVIN LERENA

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on 31 October 2017, Jockey Gavin Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that as the rider of GO GREEN, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to FLIGHT SCHOOL (C Maujean) when he shifted in at the 500m in Race 1 at the Vaal Racecourse on 24 October 2017.

Jockey Lerena pleaded not guilty to the charge, but was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board, after viewing the patrol films of the race and hearing all the evidence put forward, imposed a suspension from riding in races for a period of eight days.

Jockey Lerena has the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.

INQUIRY – JOCKEY GREG CHEYNE

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Port Elizabeth on 27 October 2017, Jockey Greg Cheyne was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of LORD WINDERMERE, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to ORIENTAL TIGER approaching the 150m in Race 6 at Fairview Racecourse on 16 October 2017.

Jockey Cheyne pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board found Jockey Cheyne guilty of the charge and imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of 7 days.

Jockey Cheyne has the Right of Appeal against the finding and the penalty imposed.

INQUIRY – JOCKEY ANTHONY DELPECH

: Inquiries; 26 October 2017; Hits: 2468

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Durban on 26 October 2017, Jockey Anthony Delpech was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that as the rider of KAHULA, he failed to prevent his mount from causing interference to INGA (W Kennedy) near the 150 metre in Race 9 at Greyville Racecourse on 15 October 2017.

Jockey Delpech pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board, after considering the evidence, found Jockey Delpech guilty and imposed the penalty of a warning.

Jockey Delpech has the right of appeal against the finding and the penalty imposed

INQUIRY - JOCKEY HEAVALON VAN DER HOVEN

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Johannesburg on Wednesday 18 October 2017, Jockey Heavalon van der Hoven was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3 in that he failed to ride the horse SPICE QUEEN out to the end of Race 6 run at the Vaal Racecourse on 12 October 2017, thereby prejudicing his chances of obtaining the outright fourth place, instead of dead-heating for this position.

Jockey van der Hoven pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of 7 days.

Jockey van der Hoven has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.

INQUIRY - JOCKEY FRANCOIS HERHOLDT

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held at the Vaal Racecourse on 12 October 2017, Jockey Francois Herholdt was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3, in that he failed to ride the horse PREMIER SHOW out to the end of the Race with sufficient vigour and determination, thereby prejudicing his chances of obtaining second place, in Race 1 at the Vaal Racecourse on 30 September 2017.

Jockey Herholdt pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of 21 days.

Jockey Herholdt has the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.

INQUIRY – TRAINER P M GADSBY

: Inquiries; 04 October 2017; Hits: 2397

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Durban on 4 October 2017, Trainer Paul Gadsby was charged with a contravention of Rule 72.1.28, in that he was negligent by failing to include the lead bag in the equipment that was supposed to be carried by LUCIUS FOX, when saddling this gelding. This resulted in Jockey Warren Kennedy, the rider of LUCIUS FOX in Race 2 at Scottsville Racecourse on 24 September 2017, weighing in 3kg below the weight at which he was declared out. As a result, LUCIUS FOX was disqualified from the race.

Trainer Gadsby pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board, after considering the evidence presented, found Trainer Gadsby guilty and imposed a fine of R10 000.

Mr Gadsby has the right of appeal against the severity of the penalty

INQUIRY – JOCKEY GAVIN LERENA

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Johannesburg on 26 September 2017, Jockey Gavin Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3, in that he failed to ride ILHA DA VAR out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards, thereby prejudicing his chances of obtaining the outright fourth place, instead of dead-heating for this position, in Race 3 run at the Turffontein Racecourse on 19 September 2017.

Jockey Lerena pleaded not guilty to the charge but was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board, after viewing the patrol films of the race, considering Jockey Lerena’s record and all factors presented in mitigation, ruled that Jockey Lerena be suspended from riding in races for a period of seven (7) days.

Jockey Lerena has the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.

INQUIRY – WORKRIDER FRANCIS SEMELA

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held at the Vaal Racecourse on Tuesday 29 August 2017, Mr Francis Semela (assisted by Mr James Maree), was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.1, in that he failed to ensure that he took all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that TAPENZEE was given a full opportunity to win, or to obtain the best possible placing in Race 1 run at the Vaal Racecourse on 17 August 2017. The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Port Elizabeth on 18 August 2017, Jockey Teaque Gould was charged with a contravention of Rule 72.1.40, in that he failed to comply with a reasonable order from a licensed Official. He was also charged with a contravention of Rule 72.1.10 in that he ill-treated his mount EVICTION by failing to dismount this colt, whilst fully aware that the horse was lame after the running of Race 5 at the Fairview Racecourse on 28 July 2017.

Jockey Gould pleaded guilty to both charges.

The Inquiry Board found Jockey Gould guilty of both charges and imposed a fine of R1 500 for the contravention of Rule 72.1.40 and R10 000 for the contravention of Rule 72.1.10.

Jockey Gould has the Right of Appeal against the penalties imposed.

INQUIRY - TRAINER PHILLIP SMITH

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held at Flamingo Park Racecourse on 21 August 2017, Trainer Phillip Smith was charged with a contravention of Rule 72.1.45, in that he presented a horse to race, which was not the correct and carded horse, MOLLY’S CHAMBERS, to run in Race 10 at the Flamingo Park Racecourse on 5 August 2017, and as a consequence, MOLLY’S CHAMBERS was withdrawn.

Trainer Smith pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty of the charge.

The Board, after taking into account all the evidence presented, as well as the mitigating factors, imposed a penalty of a fine of R15 000-00, of which R5 000-00 is suspended for a period of one year, provided that during the period of suspension he is not convicted of a contravention of Rule 72.1.45.

Trainer Smith has the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.
