The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Durban on 28 October 2021, Jockey Gareth Wright was charged with a contravention of Rule 21.11, read with Rule 66.4.  The particulars being that as the Rider of GUY FOX in Race 4, run at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 13 October 2021, he failed to ensure that this gelding carried the correct weight during the running of the race, by weighing in at more than 0.5kg below the weight at which he was declared out at. This resulted in GUY FOX, which crossed the finishing line first, being disqualified following an objection by the Clerk of Scales being upheld. 


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on Friday, 22 October 2021, Jockey Gavin Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7. The particulars being that as the rider of CORVETTE CAPTAIN, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to BRIDGE OF SPIES (*M H Zuma) shortly before the finish line in Race 7 at the Vaal Racecourse on 14 October 2021. 

Jockey Lerena pleaded not guilty to the charge. 

The Inquiry Board, after reviewing the patrol films of the race and considering the evidence presented, was of the opinion that there were circumstances to the incident and found Jockey Lerena not guilty of the charge levelled against him.   


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at the Vaal Racecourse on 14 October 2021, Jockey Denis Schwarz was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the Rider of WINNING QUEEN, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to OLYMPIC SILK (R Munger) in the concluding stages of Race 9, at the Vaal Racecourse on 4 October 2021.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on 11 October 2021, Trainer Mr M F de Kock was charged with a contravention of Rule 73.2.4 in that he was the trainer of the horse: 

1.      QUEEN SUPREME, from which a specimen taken after it had participated in and finished second in the 8th race at Turffontein Racecourse on 28 November 2020, disclosed upon analysis the presence of caffeine which is a prohibited substance in terms of the Rules of the NHA.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at the Vaal Racecourse on 30 September 2021, Jockey Ryan Munger was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the Rider of LESHAWES, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners at approximately the 300m in Race 5, at the Vaal Racecourse on 21 September 2021. 


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in the Stipendiary Stewards Boardroom at Durbanville Racecourse on 11 September 2021, Jockey Craig Bantam was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the rider of TRAVEL MASTER he failed to take sufficient corrective measures to ensure that he did not cause interference to CAPTAIN DIZZY at the 100m in Race 8 at Kenilworth Racecourse on 4 September 2021.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at the Vaal Racecourse on Thursday, 26 August 2021, Jockey Denis Schwarz was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.4.  The particulars being that he rode MY KINGDOM in a negligent manner by failing to take the necessary corrective measures to prevent MY KINGDOM shifting out and carrying WATUSI outwards significantly, in Race 5 run over 1800m at Turffontein Racecourse on Sunday, 15 August 2021. 

Jockey Schwarz pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty by the Board. 

The Inquiry Board after considering the mitigating factors presented, imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of seven (7) days.   

Jockey Schwarz has the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Durban on 24 August 2021, Jockey Serino Moodley was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read in conjunction with Guideline M on the use of the crop).  The particulars being that he misused his crop by striking PEARL OF ASIA more than 12 times in Race 8, run at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 31 July 2021.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Gqeberha on 16 July 2021, Jockey Francois Herholdt was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the rider of WIND SOCK, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners at approximately the 300m in Race 3 at Fairview Racecourse on 9 July 2021.

Jockey Herholdt pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board accepted his plea and found Jockey Herholdt guilty as charged.  After considering all the evidence, the Inquiry Board imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of seven (7) days.

Jockey Herholdt waived his Right of Appeal and was granted permission to take his suspension from 17 July 2021 to 23 July 2021, both days inclusive.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held in Gqeberha on 15 July 2021, Jockey Eldin Webber was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7. The particulars being that as the rider of BUSH FEVER, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to HIT FOR SIX at approximately the 1500m, in Race 4 at Fairview Racecourse on 5 July 2021.
