The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 27 March 2024, Jockey R Danielson was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 read with Guideline N on the use of the crop.  The particulars being that, as the rider of KAKIEBOS, he misused his crop by striking this filly on the ear on a number of occasions during the running of Race 6 at the Vaal Racecourse on 7 March 2024. 


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an Appeal was heard at its offices in Johannesburg on Monday, 25 March 2024. 

Background 

Jockey J Gates was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the rider of ROSE TINTED, he failed to ensure that he did not cause substantial interference to MAMAQUERA (P Mxoli) when he shifted in, in the concluding stages of Race 8 at Turffontein Racecourse on 2 November 2023. During this incident, MAMAQUERA clipped the heels of ROSE TINTED, was checked severely, stumbled, and dislodged Jockey P Mxoli. 


The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on Thursday, 29 February 2024, Jockey G Wright was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3.  The particulars being that he failed to ride GRANDIOSA out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards and prejudiced his chances of obtaining fourth place in Race 7, at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse on 17 February 2024. 


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Durban on 29 February 2024, Jockey S Veale was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the rider of HIPPOCRATES, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to DROGARATI (M Yeni) and EDDIE THE MOVER (R Khathi) at the 300m in Race 6 at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 21 February 2024.


The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on Thursday, 8 February 2024, Jockey K Steyn was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that whilst riding BENEATH THE MOON, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to runners on his outside when he shifted out between the 250m and the 150m in Race 9 on 16 December 2023 at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse.


The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on Saturday, 3 February 2024, Jockey S Moodley was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3.  The particulars being that he failed to ride THAMBI out to the end of the race, to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards and prejudiced his chances of obtaining fourth place in Race 5 at the Vaal Racecourse on 23 January 2024. 


The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Gqeberha on Friday 02 February 2024, Jockey M Mjoka was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the rider of CHARGE AHEAD, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to WESTERN JACK, BRIDGERTON, WILLIAM’S LEGACY and FUTURE AFRICA at the 1000m, in Race 2 at Fairview Racecourse on 12 January 2024.

Jockey Mjoka pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of the charge.  


The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on Tuesday, 30 January 2024, Jockey G Wright was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that as the rider of SUGAR MOUNTAIN, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to NEBRAAS and was a partial source of interference to SENSO UNICO from the 200m in Race 7 at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse on 16 December 2023.


The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on Monday, 29 January 2024, Jockey G Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that whilst riding EIGER SANCTION, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to GAMER (D Schwarz) at the 250m in Race 1 on 7 January 2024 at Turffontein Racecourse.


The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on Thursday, 25 January 2024, Jockey G van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.  The particulars being that whilst riding EPIKLEROS, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners when he shifted outwards from the 200m in Race 6 on 13 January 2024 at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse.
